How Much RAM Does a Hytale Server Need?
One of the first questions people ask when creating a Hytale server is:
How much RAM do I actually need?
The answer is thankfully not "buy as much as physically possible."
Start With What You Actually Need
Hytale's dedicated server can run with at least 4 GB of memory according to the current official server documentation.
That does not mean every Hytale server should use exactly 4 GB.
The amount you need depends heavily on what is happening inside your world.
Players exploring in different directions, larger loaded areas, mods, complicated systems, and bigger communities can all increase resource usage.
For a new server, the best approach is simple:
Start reasonable and grow when the server actually needs it.
More RAM Is Not Automatically Better
It is easy to look at hosting plans and assume that the server with the largest number next to "RAM" must be the best.
That is not really how it works.
Performance depends on more than memory.
CPU performance, the world, player activity, view distance, plugins, and how the server is configured all matter.
A small server with good resources can feel better than an oversized server that is poorly configured.
Let Your Server Grow With You
Your first world probably does not need infrastructure built for hundreds of players.
You might have four people.
Then ten.
Then twenty.
And if you eventually reach the point where you genuinely need more resources, that is a good problem to have.
With Vael, our goal is to let you start small instead of paying for a huge server before anyone has even joined.
Start your Hytale server for free.
Build the community first.
Scale the server when the community gives you a reason to.
